“Constructing integrated studies of cultural and research resources” at the National Museum of Japanese History

The National Museum of Japanese History (NMJH, popularly known in Japanese as Rekihaku) is a museum on Japanese history located in Sakura, Chiba, Japan. This museum is currently conducting its core research, “Constructing Integrated Studies on Cultural and Research Resources” by developing a comprehensive digital network of Japanese historical resources. This project enables access to data in universities and museums across Japan through interdisciplinary studies in the humanities and sciences using information infrastructure. This digital network includes links to relevant information and the search results can display advanced information globally. It will be launched in 2017.

This paper illustrates NMJH’s digitalized, open resource information, indicating the range of those available in this project. Our emerging application is also demonstrated. This system uses Linked Data and International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF). These international standards enable our system to operate with other systems globally. Here we display the new digital network, accessing data in Japanese universities and museums worldwide.
